This meeting we had a Financial Planner from our local Edward Jones office come in and speak to the club. The club asked great questions about what his job entails and what education to get to that point looked like!

The club learned about what day-to-day work looks like, managing clients’ assets in a volatile market, the importance of reputation, why 20-year treasury bills are used often in this niche, and some of the biggest mistakes he’s seen on the job.

The club also learned about the benefits of a financial planner. As our representative put it, a Financial Planner is “Someone who stands in between you and an impulse decision.” They watch the market and understand what’s going on, they have your best interest in mind and work with you to diversify risk and grow your money.

In addition, the club had our first official presentation for the Viking Fund! West, (shown below) presented his stock, Vertiv Holdings Company. West’s pitch was to purchase $75 worth of a partial share of (VRT) at a price of $108. This purchase is roughly 5% of the Viking Fund portfolio. West provided proper reasoning in conjunction with a technical analysis. As a result, the club voted in favor of this purchase.

Next meeting: VU567, 5:45-7:00 PM, 2/19
