This meeting Cameron and Carlos gave a presentation on Passive, Value, and Fixed Income investing to give some basic information on investing for new members of the club.
Passive investing aims to maximize returns by minimizing the cost and labor of buying and selling securities. (Buying and holding.)
Value investing is seeking out stocks that trade less than their intrinsic value.
Fixed income investing pays investors a fixed coupon to hold a security via dividend or interest.
The club also talked about Boeing preferred shares which will mandatorily convert to common shares on 10/15/27.
A preferred stock is a hybrid security which has characteristics of both stocks and bonds. Preferred stock can convert into common stock or can be callable and bought back by the issuer.
The club also talked about Treasury Bills and different bonds as well as the bond market.
Lastly, Cameron also retouched on what to expect with the club this quarter and going forward. Cameron showed the website and talked about the different ways to get into contact with the WWU Investment Club. Cameron talked about the Viking Fund and the club also looked at earnings of our current Viking Fund investment, Constellation Brands (STZ).
