Reminder!
A representative from our local Edward Jones is coming to speak to our club next week 2/12/25 about their career and experience as a student in finance. Come with questions! (VU567 5:45-7:00 PM)
In other news, the club website is up and running! You can find more information about the club, what we do, our upcoming schedule, our positions and holdings in the Viking Fund as well as how to get involved with the club!
This meeting Cameron and Carlos presented some basic information on passive and value investing. They tackled information about Roth IRAs, max contributions yearly, how money compounds, and tax advantages. We also discussed intrinsic value calculation and the limits of these calculations as well as assumptions being made when using these calculations.
The club now has a second anonymous donor to grow our Viking Fund further! As we approach our first presentation for allocating the Viking Fund, the requirements for investment pitches have undergone a slight modification.
🔹Any investment over 20% of portfolio value will require a supermajority vote (66% of members) to pass.
🔹 Along with a presentation to the club on what and why we should make a certain investment, a 200-word pitch must also be provided. This is for documentation on the website mentioned above.
🔹Another added requirement is the addition of an asset price in the presentation. This allows for certain purchases to be made at certain prices, which allows for room in the scope of investment and increased quantitative research.
🔹Voting regarding presentations will be anonymous to more accurately reflect voter’s sentiment towards the presentation itself, not the presenter.
The club will also work to join the D.A. Davidson Student Investment Program in the coming months. You can find more information about this program here: https://lnkd.in/eNHpFHkN
Next meeting: VU567, 5:45-7:00 PM, 2/12! Come with questions!
